MY NAME IS BRENDAN AND I SOLVE PROBLEMS WITH QUALITY SOFTWARE
The first few years of career was mostly dealing with the backend, particularly Java/Groovy and C# projects. I went on to develop AEM solutions for Investec, Absa Bank, Unilever, Vodafone, Cognifide and a few other big names. I've had the privilege to learn from some great software engineers in that time, learning and applying all sorts of design patterns, testing frameworks and methodologies and the agile processes. I went on to help My BinMen with a friend, a refuse removal service facilitated via a Website and Mobile app. This is where my love for Node.js, React, React Native and GraphQL grew. We successfully launched a product that was performant, accessible, easy to maintain, a joy to extend and didn't cost all that much. While this was growing I went on a search for exciting products with a similar tech stack to My BinMen, and now I work at the amazing Yoco and I specialise in working on the React Native app. My daily work consists of developing core app features, enabling other team members through mentorship, maintaining quality through automated developer tools and in-depth pull requests. Of course, I still maintain and improve my other skills in my spare time.
